Conservation
During the fall/winter of 2005/2006 conservation work was started on the city gate & the walls of the 4 chambers just inside the city gate. Orna Cohen, a conservator with vast experience at many other sites which include Hatzor & the Galilee boat at Kibbutz Ginosar, was in charge of the project. She was assisted by an experienced crew of Druze workman from the Golan Heights. Conservation progressed in the intervening years.
Work continues conserving the walls using the same methods & materials as the original walls. The bottom picture is of a wall just inside the city, west of the gate chambers, that was just constructed to keep the balk from collapsing. Basalt boulders were used with fill material behind the wall & a mud/straw mixture between the boulders .
Orna & group are smoothing out the main iron age road & building a path thru the city gates to the upper Roman area of the site. This will allow visitors to easily move about the site
