Dr. Greg Jenks from St. Francis college, Australia, arrived with a group of
8. Dr. Nicolae Roddy from Creighton University arrived with a total of
21 (wow!) people. Welcome aboard. There were 3 father/daughters,
1 mother/son & 1 couple from France in addition to the Americans &
individuals from a few other countries.
Work continued in A east, outside the eastern side of the iron age city
wall. The shards appear to be early iron age or late bronze age making
this spot one of the oldest places at Bethsaida. The volunteers under
the direction of Kate continued to excavate the storage room area & to look
for the entrance to this area. In A west walls & structures were slowly
being uncovered in order to get a clearer picture of the city in the
Roman/Hellenistic periods. Nicolae & group worked in area C & also
were slowly excavating structures & walls.
Many interesting finds showed up as you can see below & on the Special Pics
page. The 1st on the left is the bull's/horse's? head neck of a
libation vessel found in area C. Very
unique & beautiful. The 2nd is the type of jug that in was 1st used in
the Byzantine period as a
grenade. Note that the top is knocked
off - maybe a place for a fuse? Note the sickle, sword & knife found
close together in A west. Great work everyone.
